Default Connecting to Home Wi-Fi with iPod Touch (help)

When I attempt to connect my ipod Touch 2gen(32g) via Safari, I get the error message: "Safari cannot open the page. Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument."

Router? - Netgear WGR614v9 purchased Apri/2009 (firmware up to date)
Encryption? - WPA-psk
MAC address filtering? - not sure on this. I did enter the ipod's mac addy into the "stup access list" in my router controls.

I guess I am not positve I have my router set up correctly, but it shows up under the wi-fi settings on my ipod.

When i touch the blue circle/arrow on my router listing on my ipod, is there supposed to be information listed under the IP Address, subnet mask...etc...etc?

Any instructions or info on what I'm doing wrong and how to correct it would be greatly appreciated.

I have an ipod 2G here.

You should see your Wifi network name in the list (under "Choose a Network") with lock since your network is WPA protected. If you click on the more info button (>) you should have info like IP address.

If you have an address that looks like 169.x.x.x, it means the DHCP server of the router didn't give an IP address to the ipod for some reason. If you see nothing, you are not connected.

Go back, try to click on the name of the network. It should ask you for your WPA password. Now you should have a check mark at the left of the name of the network and you should see info in the more info page (>).

If you are connected but see not info (that would be strange), it's probably an ipod software issue. In that case and also if you can't connect at all, try to reboot the ipod (shutdown completely and restart).

If you see a 169.x.x.x ip but are connected, try the "Renew Lease" button at the bottom of the IP info page. If that doesn't work try again after rebooting. If it still don't work, I would suspect a router configuration issue.

I've had quite some trouble working with Wifi networks and the ipod 2G (and the iphone 3GS too for that matter). Often it gets in a weird mode that only reboot will get it out of. I found that disabling bluetooth helped a lot (bluetooth and Wifi share the same radio chip on board).

Also, if you have a wifi complex network, with repeaters to extend the range that are sharing the same channel, it may mix up the ipod's radio chip while it jumps from one base station to another. In all fairness, it may mix up ANY radio chip, including in a normal laptop.

Thanx Geo. My WiFi seems to have started working with my iPod.

Are you able to assist with setting up my ghostdogs email address? I think I've had it setup incorrectly all this time in outlook so i am not receiving emails to that address. I don't recall all of the correct settings or the pw.

I have used a couple of my other email accounts to set emails to my ghostdogs email address, but I don't receive them. SO, something is wrong with my set up.

Thanx Odie. I got my Outlook correctly set up for my ghostdogs.net email, but my iPod is asking "user" name at the incoming server info section.

Also I am getting an error that says the certificate for ghost@ghostdogs.net may not be valid

The user name should be "ghost@ghostdogs.net"

for the certificate, I believe you can ignore that.
